Steam Deck contains all the features that Valve thinks it should have, basically all the components (Again, it’s a full tower PC.) Okay, so there is no CD drive, but there are buttons, joysticks and bumpers, triggers, trackpad, and paddles. It even has a touch screen, and a Bluetooth connection is used to connect more controllers if you use it, like a 7 inch small TV.
Valve is entering the portable gaming market through Steam Deck-a a mobile device that can play any game in your library. Its goal is to become the Nintendo Switch for PC games, essentially.

Steam Deck release date
Steam Deck will start directing in December 2021. Though, this does not indicate that you will receive it this year if you pre-order, as the Steam Deck site now displays the “expected order availability” for each version in the second quarter of 2022. It covers the United States and the United Kingdom. For the 512GB version, the ETA date has been revoked. When it appears in the third quarter of 2022, almost immediately after the booking went live, it has now been adjusted to the second quarter of 2022.
Though, this may vary based on the region. Still, it may mean that the original expected ship date was incorrect or that Valve has received more orders for a higher specification platform than assumed initially, which has now been adjusted production priority accordingly.
Steam Deck Prices
The price depends on the version the player wants, and it is divided into three different versions depending on the storage size. Steam Platform Cost:
- $649 for the 512GB version
- $529 for the 256GB version
- $399 for the 64GB version
The more expensive Steam Deck version has faster NVMe SSD storage, while the cheapest version comes with a 64GB eMMC (built-in multimedia card) storage solution. All three versions allow you to use a MicroSD card to increase storage space.
Steam Deck Controls
The grand goal is to be able to play the complete Steam library (over 50,000 games) at launch via Proton (Valve’s tool for running Windows games on Linux). Doing so requires many control options.
Valve’s portable console weighs 1.47 pounds and is 11.7 inches wide, which is more significant than its main competitor but clearly still very comfortable to hold and use. PC Gamer stated that the unit must be large enough to contain numerous control options, each of which is smoother and easier to access than the photo could show. The joystick is larger than the one on the Switch and works more like the joystick on an Xbox controller, and the touch is reminiscent of the Steam controller. The console’s 7-inch screen is a touch screen and can be used more for various applications than for actual games.
